About Us

What’s In a Name?

The common loon has a huge range of names depending on where in the world they were located. Some are pretty great: Loon, hell-diver, ember goose, etc. but one stands above the rest: Call-Up-A-Storm.

In New England folklore, hearing lots of loon calls meant that a storm was imminent, so the locals started referring to the bird as call-up-a-storm. This blog covers MLS’ Minnesota United, aka The Loons, and I wasn’t about to name the blog “guinea duck.”

Who Are You?

Dan Wade started his career as a baseball journalist, writing and editing for such publications as Sports Illustrated before it was AI-generated trash, Baseball Prospectus, Fangraphs, NBC Sports/Rotoworld and many others. He became a soccer fan explicitly to avoid going down an analytical rabbit hole again. This blog stands as monument to his failure.

Dan has been a MNUFC season ticket holder since 2016 and has been opinionated about sports since 1990.
